TWELVE VINEYARDS, TWELVE WINES.
Materia Prima is a winemaking project through which Fèlsina deepens its research into Sangiovese, the grape variety that has always been at the heart of our winemaking vision. Twelve crus vinified separately, twelve wines, each telling its own story.
Each wine follows the same winemaking practices: fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the same period of skin maceration, malolactic fermentation in 500-litre tonneaux, and 18 months of ageing in wood.
The real work begins in the vineyard, where each terroir, with its own intrinsic characteristics, is capable of giving rise to unique wines. It is therefore the soil, together with its microclimate and morphological characteristics, that distinguishes each wine, giving it a unique and unrepeatable identity.
1. POZZI
Pozzi is a hillside vineyard with a pronounced slope, located in Pagliarese at 380 metres above sea level. Its light-brown soils are well drained, cool and deep, with a high proportion of stones and abundant alberese and limestone.

2. QUERCIONE
The vineyard is located in Pagliarese, in the Chianti Classico area, at 340 metres above sea level, near a centuries-old oak tree that stands at the highest point of the vineyard. Its light-brown, medium-textured clay-loam soils are rich in alberese and limestone and characterised by good internal drainage.

3. QUADRI
The vineyard is located in the Chianti Classico area of Pagliarese, at an altitude of 340 metres above sea level, and lies above a calcareous water spring.
The soils are ochre-brown clay loam with a moderate limestone content.

4. MALENA
The vineyard lies at 350 metres above sea level, along the fault line marking the boundary of the Chianti Classico area at Fèlsina. The soils are slightly calcareous clay loam, rich in calcium and with a significant presence of stones.

5. SANTA MARIA
The vineyard is located at an altitude of 340 metres above sea level in the Chianti Colli Senesi area. The soils developed from Pliocene marine deposits with sandy sediments. Yellowish-brown in colour, they are slightly calcareous, deep and well structured.

6. MANDORLI
The vineyard is located in the Chianti Classico area at 380 metres above sea level. Its soils are highly stony and calcareous, with abundant galestro and deeper layers of alberese. This distinctive characteristic, unique among Fèlsina’s soils, ensures excellent drainage and encourages root development.

7. FORNACE
The vineyard is located on the slopes of Poggio a Rancia at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level. Its cool, deep soils are rich in clay, silt and stones, formed through the erosion and weathering of alberese limestone.

8. SAMBRA
The vineyard is located at 360 metres above sea level in a broad, cool natural drainage area. Its clay-loam soils are cool and fertile, well drained and slightly calcareous.

9. VIGNA DEL LAGO
This south-facing vineyard is located at 360 metres above sea level, above Lago di Rancia. Its medium-textured, light-brown clay soils are cool and rich in limestone.

10. RUZZATOIO DEL LAGO
The vineyard faces north and extends above Lago di Rancia at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level. Its soils are characterised by lacustrine sandy clays, with a significant presence of limestone-rich alberese pebbles.

11. RUZZATOIO D’OMBRONE
The vineyard, located above the Ombrone River, lies at 350 metres above sea level in a well-ventilated area with a north-eastern exposure. Its cool, sandy soils are of alluvial origin, with an abundant presence of limestone-rich alberese pebbles.

12. CASALE
The vineyard, located in Fèlsina’s Chianti Colli Senesi area, lies at an altitude of 370 metres above sea level. Its soils developed from Pliocene marine deposits with sandy sediments and little to no stony material.
